Volume 1 Number 30

The Editor's Desk:

August 1 - August 7, 2010

Our mission is to present spiritual responses to some of the greatest challenges that life has to offer: events like death of a loved one, breakup of a relationship, serious accident or illness, crises of identity, recovery from addiction, loss of job or career, retirement, and other life-altering events.
It's Sad to Say, "Goodbye!"
That's right: after only 24 issues, it's time to say, "Farewell" to the Spirit in Crisis Journal. Hope springs eternal, but, in this very preoccupied world, our hopes are very often disappointed. That's the way of life: but each ending brings with it lessons learned and hopes for new beginnings. Please read the letter at the bottom of today's edition for more information. In the meantime, "Thanks!" to both our dedicated contributors and our equally-dedicated readers. It was you who made this e-Zine possible!

At the same time, the Spirit in Crisis Journal won't be going away completely. Our inspired articles will remain here for you to read and re-read at your leisure. Also, I'll be cross-posting my regular articles from the Midlife Mastery Journal here, as well. So, keep coming back to visit: You're always welcome!

What is it that sustains and motivates us as we offer ourselves to the world by volunteering? Can the very act of volunteering be a means of transformation in our lives? Why Are You Doing This to Me?

Why Are You Doing This to Me?

So long as we're stuck in the 'me-centered' universe of adulthood, challenges and adversity will continue to appear to us to be focused on us (because that's where our unconscious focus lies, and that's the perspective from which we view everything that happens around us). [Continue]

Compassionate Hearing

Compassionate Hearing

A close friend of mine is in her twelfth year of cancer and facing the challenges of old age, too. I called to check in on her and listened for the next half hour as she described her situation and challenges. Her pain and frustration poured out of her mouth. Compassionate hearing is both a vital need during challenges and a valuable gift that we [Continue]

Eight Components for Cultivating a Resilient Response and Expanding Potential

On some level, due to the ever-changing nature of life, we are always in some stage of grief. Whether disappointed with results and feeling the loss (or fearing the loss) of a dream, or healing from the loss of a relationship, a job, or the loss experienced in any other major life transition, grieving seems to be part of a natural cycle of growth [Continue]
