Volume 1 Number 30

The Editor's Desk:

August 1 - August 7, 2010

Our mission is to present spiritual responses to some of the greatest challenges that life has to offer: events like death of a loved one, breakup of a relationship, serious accident or illness, crises of identity, recovery from addiction, loss of job or career, retirement, and other life-altering events.
It's Sad to Say, "Goodbye!"
That's right: after only 24 issues, it's time to say, "Farewell" to the Spirit in Crisis Journal. Hope springs eternal, but, in this very preoccupied world, our hopes are very often disappointed. That's the way of life: but each ending brings with it lessons learned and hopes for new beginnings. Please read the letter at the bottom of today's edition for more information. In the meantime, "Thanks!" to both our dedicated contributors and our equally-dedicated readers. It was you who made this e-Zine possible!

At the same time, the Spirit in Crisis Journal won't be going away completely. Our inspired articles will remain here for you to read and re-read at your leisure. Also, I'll be cross-posting my regular articles from the Midlife Mastery Journal here, as well. So, keep coming back to visit: You're always welcome!

The Power of Gratitude

In the darkest moments, your angel is shining God’s light on the suffering. To feel the love that your angel is holding you in, have gratitude. When you experience heartfelt gratitude, you are in the embrace of your soul. [Continue]

A Vision of Diversity Is the Real Vision of Unity

A Vision of Diversity Is the Real Vision of Unity

The images of all nations, all languages, all people joined together as one is very reminiscent of that day of Pentecost when the disciples gather in that upper room, locked in fear and in their differences, when the Holy Spirit descended upon them and broke the walls that divided them, took away their fear, their mis-understandings, their closed [Continue]

Cultivating a Welcoming Place for Receiving

Are You Welcoming or Repelling the Arrival of Good? This is a question I've been asking myself lately and honestly, I've been experiencing a conscious awareness of both, and taking responsibility for my shift when needed. On some level, no matter your focus or prayer, you desire to receive something. [Continue]

Cleaning Up the Wreckage Part I: “I Messed up!”

Cleaning Up the Wreckage Part I: “I Messed up!”

Everybody makes a mess from time to time. It's the price we pay for growth and progress. If we're wise, we learn from our mistakes; if not, we can wind up paying for them over and over again. In this first of five articles, Les Brown looks at how guilt can become a positive experience. [Continue]

Turn Persistent Thoughts to Prayer

Turn Persistent Thoughts to Prayer

Are you suffering from persistent negative thoughts? Turn these thoughts to prayer. If you keep asking yourself, “Why can’t I let go of this?” each time you catch yourself in that thought, pray, “Spirit, God, help me to let go of this.” Use the name for Spirit that most resonates with your heart. Breaking of the Bread of Our Lives

Breaking of the Bread of Our Lives

And behold, two of them were going that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about seven miles. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. And it came to pass that while they communed and reasoned together, Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were held, that they should not know [Continue]

That Certain Something

What? Why? Who am I ? Butch Hovis examines how mystical writers such as John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, and the Buddha address what may be the root of our true life. [Continue]

Life on Life’s Terms

Life on Life’s Terms

Learning to live life on life's terms is the great spiritual lesson of midlife: allowing us to transition from the adult attitude of self-willed self-determination to the more mature and realistic attitude of acceptance and trust. [Continue]

To Be Saved or Not to Be Saved!

To Be Saved or Not to Be Saved!

This morning outside of Penn Station in New York City I heard this man telling someone that “you must be saved!” Wow “you must”! So emphatic, so clear, so demanding of anyone who passed his way. That, along with a little brochure describing the last days of judgment and the fires of hell was sternly given out. Seemed to be all one needed [Continue]
